A UK “Thank You Tour”, visiting all the rescue workers who had been so vital in ensuring the survivability of the terrible Bronco crash last year was completed 14-16 June 2013.

First stop on Friday 14 June was the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity and the HART Team at the historic Bristol Filton airport (now closed).

By a serious stroke of luck on the day of the accident a HART team had just delivered a patient near Kemble and were passing the airport as they saw the Bronco come down.

Next on our itinerary was a return visit to Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital. All the staff, nurses and doctors of both the Intensive Care and Burns unit who had done such a tremendous job were all elated to see how good things were progressing, very much owing to their credit.

In the afternoon we visited the base of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance were again the paramedic, pilots and support staff were on hand and could relate the story from their perspective. It was the WAA MD900 helicopter which transported Tony from the accident scene to Frenchay hospital.

Interviews were given to the local press and also to BBC Gloucester TV. We even made the evening news with a major feature.

The whole rescue effort was a brilliantly coordinated affair, initiated in a most professional way by Cotswold Airport ATC and was proven to be a fantastic team effort between the Cotswold Airport Fire brigade, the HART team, the two helicopter ambulance services and the receiving staff at Frenchay hospital.

The weekend was spent at Kemble (Cotswold Airport) meeting with all the staff again, throwing a little party and having many friends and well-wishers pass by to say hello and check for progress first hand. A Fly2Help charitable fly in was organized concurrently and BBMF honoured our visit with a fly by in the DC3.
We find it important to stress the importance of the excellent rescue services based around the UK, which are all largely run an a charitable and voluntary basis. Such organizations can never receive enough support and publicity. We can not encourage anyone enough to do support their local rescue charities. These services are close to you and are there ready for you when you need them most.
